The foundation stone for the Montessori learning centre was laid Peter Prevc also attended the ceremony

On Thursday, officials in Brezovica laid the foundation stone for a new Montessori learning centre, marking a significant step in educational infrastructure development in the region. The ceremony was attended by former ski jumper Peter Prevc, who has been associated with local community initiatives in recent years. The new facility will combine a private kindergarten with primary school facilities, operating under the principles of Montessori pedagogy. According to Miha Kranjc, director of the Montessori Learning Centre, the institution is set to welcome its first students in September 2028. The project, which is being executed by the Montessori Learning Centre, is funded by the company Dej Skladi. The organisation is working closely with the municipality of Brezovica to integrate public-private collaboration, including plans to open a library within the new primary school premises. The construction work is scheduled to begin in September and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027. Once operational, the school and kindergarten will accommodate approximately 200 children, divided into two groups in the kindergarten, aged between four and six years old. A Montessori unit in the Notranje Gorice area will start operations in September, initially accepting children aged three to six. After the completion of the new spaces in Brezovica, there will remain two groups of children up to four years old in the Notranje Gorice location. Kranjc emphasized that one of the key features of the Montessori approach is allowing each child to develop at their own pace, adapting both to their individual needs and those of their family. The environment is designed to foster independence, with teachers acting more as mentors guiding students through new experiences and knowledge. Kranjc further highlighted the importance of intergenerational cooperation, stating that such activities benefit children in terms of learning, gaining new experiences, and developing empathy towards older generations. During the ceremony, a time capsule containing children's drawings, some coins, a current magazine, and a commemorative list was placed beneath the foundation stone. This capsule is intended to preserve aspects of the present for future generations, and it will be unearthed in 2078. The event drew attention not only for its educational significance but also for the involvement of notable figures like Peter Prevc, whose presence underscored the broader community engagement in local projects. As the construction phase begins, the focus shifts to ensuring that the facility meets all necessary standards and that the transition to the new educational model is smooth for both staff and students. The coming months will see preparations for the opening, with the ultimate goal of providing a high-quality, child-centred learning environment in Brezovica.
