He will start attending the prestigious Eton College this autumn, where he will have his own room for study and sleep. This arrangement is not due to his royal status or special privileges, but rather a rule that applies to all students. According to the official website of the school, “From the very beginning, each boy has his own room for studying and sleeping. Thus, students receive private space while also taking on the responsibility of organizing themselves and developing self-discipline in fulfilling obligations and meeting deadlines.” While some boarding schools emphasize communal living as an essential part of social bonding, Eton places greater emphasis on independence, personal responsibility, and organization. A major change in daily life For the 13-year-old prince, this represents a significant shift compared to his previous schooling. Until now, he attended Lambrook School, where he occasionally stayed overnight in the dormitory. Eton, on the other hand, operates as a true boarding school, meaning George will return home primarily at the end of the week and during school holidays. The proximity of the family home, Forest Lodge, which is approximately 16 minutes away by car, ensures that family ties will remain frequent despite his life in the boarding environment. Tradition and challenges for new students In addition to a new lifestyle, Prince George must also adapt to unique traditions tied to Eton’s long history. Hugo Vickers, a royal biographer and former student of the college, described to the magazine Hello! that new students face various trials, including questioning by older students, which they must prepare for in a very short time. One of the initial tasks is known as the “color test,” where students must identify the layout of buildings and the official colors of all 25 houses within the institution.
