Policie vyhlásila celostátní pátrání po primátorovi Karviné Janu Wolfovi, který je podle informací z radnice na plánované dovolené. Tato situace vyvolala značnou zájem veřejnosti a zároveň způsobila značný rozruch v místním politickém prostředí. Podle informací z různých médií, včetně ČT24, Aktuálně.cz, Novinky.cz, Seznam Zprávy a iDNES.cz, je Wolf momentálně na dovolené, kterou plánoval a kterou si vysvětlil jako „normální“. Mluvčí města Monika Danková potvrdila, že policie byla o skutečnosti, že Wolf čerpá řádnou dovolenou, informována včera (ve čtvrtek). Nicméně i přec, bylo vyhlášeno pátrání, což zaskočilo i radniční pracovníky.
Pátrání po Wolfovi bylo vyhlášeno Národní centrálou proti organizovanému zločinu (NCOZ), která zřejmě zohlednila nové skutečnosti, které vedení vyšetřovatelů zjišťovalo. Vrchní státní zástupce Radim Dragoun potvrdil, že v jedné z trestních věcí souvisejících s korupcí a s podvodným sázením na sportovní zápasy bylo zjištěno, že Wolf může být ohrožen vazbou – tzv. koluzní vazbou. Tento typ vazby znamená, že osoba, která je podezíraná, nemá možnost ovlivňovat vyšetřování, protože by mohla mařit pravdivost nebo ovlivňovat svědky. Dragoun upozornil, že návrh na vzetí Wolfa do vazby nevyloučil, ale zároveň zdůraznil, že je třeba provést další kroky.
Právní zástupce Wolfa, Filip Petráš, reagoval na vyhlášení pátrání velmi ostrě. Uvedl, že postup policie je v rozporu s vnitřními pravidly a právními zárukami, protože Wolf je na řádné dovolené, o čemž byla policie informována. Petráš zdůraznil, že Wolf vrací se do města ve středu a že není nekontaktní. Navíc, podle něj, policie ani nezkusila kontaktovat Wolfa přímo, i když měla k němu přímý přístup. Petráš zároveň podotkl, že Wolf bude připraven spolupracovat s policií, ale že vytváří na něj obrovský nátlak. Jako důsledek tohoto postupu označil reputační katastrofu pro Wolfa.
Etická komise Fotbalové asociace ČR (FAČR) v pondělí rozhodla, že Wolf nesmí kvůli ovlivnění tří zápasů působit 12 let ve fotbale a uložila mu třímilionovou pokutu. Zároveň vyloučila klub MFK Karviná z první fotbalové ligy. Wolf tento rozhodnutí odmítl, tvrdí, že je nesprávné a že se nedopustil korupčního jednání. Kritizoval také souběh disciplinárního a trestního řízení, který podle něj omezuje možnosti účinné obhajoby. Wolf se rovněž nechtěl vzdát křesla primátora a chystal se obhájit svou funkci v komunálních volbách.
Kauza týkající se podvodných sázek a ovlivňování zápasů byla velmi rozsáhlá. Koncem března bylo obviněno 32 lidí, a Etická komise FAČR zahájila 47 disciplinárních řízení. Mezi obviněnými byl i někdejší fotbalový rozhodčí Lubomír Puček, který podle policejních poznatků pomáhal Wolfovi ovlivňovat výsledky zápasů. Podle dokumentů z vyšetřování bylo zjištěno, že Wolf si za pomoc Pučka platil a že tato aktivita měla za následek zisk pro klub MFK Karviná. V některých případech byly schůzky mezi Wolfem a Pučkem zaznamenány, a výsledky zápasů byly manipulovány. Například v západě mezi Karvinou a Českými Budějovicemi byl hráč Českých Budějovic Samuel Šigut vyzýván k ovlivnění výsledku. Podobně byl i hráč Vyškova Filip Štěpánek vyzýván k pomoci Karvině. Tyto události byly zaznamenány a zpřístupněny policii.
Kontextem tohoto incidentu je i fakt, že Karviná je městem s významnou fotbalovou tradicí, a že kauza ovlivňování zápasů měla značný dopad na celý region. Koalice, kterou vede SOCDEM a hnutí ANO, má v zastupitelstvu převahu 33 hlasů. Koaliční partneři potvrdili, že spolupráce mezi nimi pokračuje i po rozhodnutí FAČR. V pondělí má ve městě zasedat zastupitelstvo, což naznačuje, že situace se bude dále vyvíjet. Všechny tyto faktory ukazují, že pátrání po Wolfovi je nejen politickým, ale i kulturním a sociálním problémem, který může mít významný dopad na budoucnost města.
