Planning minister reviews strategic development projects in Rashid

Planning Minister Ahmed Rostom visited Rashid Port in Beheira Governorate to review progress on strategic development projects. During the visit, he emphasized the role of continued investment in ports and logistics in driving economic growth, enhancing trade infrastructure, and boosting the competitiveness of Egyptian exports. The focus was on modernizing ports, expanding maritime services, and strengthening the transport and logistics sectors. Rostom and Beheira Governor Jacqueline Azar inspected ongoing work on the LE700 million port development project, which spans 48,000 square meters. The initiative includes the construction of new berths, ship repair and maintenance workshops, marine service facilities, utility networks, and administrative buildings. These developments aim to improve operational efficiency and capacity at the port. The second phase of the project will introduce additional facilities such as fish refrigeration and ice production units, a customs building, and a factory for manufacturing fishing supplies. This expansion is designed to broaden the range of services offered at the port, making it more attractive for both domestic and international stakeholders. Azar highlighted the potential economic benefits of the project, noting its expectation to generate over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs. She also pointed to the anticipated influx of new investments and the reinforcement of the local economy through improved infrastructure and services. During the visit, attention was also given to the restoration efforts in historic Rashid, particularly the Al-Amasili House, a key Ottoman-era landmark. Rostom expressed the importance of balancing infrastructure development with the preservation of historical sites.
