Ogun installs Oba Balogun as Alaye of Imobiland

Ogun State has officially installed Oba Abdul Fatai Olatunji Balogun as the Alaye of Imobiland in Ijebu East Local Government Area, marking the conclusion of a long-awaited process to appoint a traditional leader for the region. The ceremony took place in Abeeokuta, drawing together traditional rulers, government officials, community leaders, political figures, development organizations, labor unions, and members of the Imobi community both inside and outside Nigeria. The event followed a three-day series of rituals and celebrations aimed at honoring the transition of power. Governor Dapo Abiodun addressed attendees through his representative, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat. He encouraged Oba Balogun to follow in the footsteps of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, whose tenure was marked by efforts to foster peace, growth, and development throughout Ijebuland. The governor emphasized the importance of extending developmental projects to the grassroots level, where traditional leaders can play a vital role in rallying their people and supporting local progress. Abiodun also urged the citizens of Imobi to actively engage with the state's economic initiatives, ensuring that these efforts translate into tangible benefits for their community. He asked Oba Balogun to lead with a focus on unity, peace, and development, using his position to attract investments and enhance the welfare of his constituents. Dr. Oludamilare Kehinde, the Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, extended his congratulations to the newly appointed Alaye and highlighted the mutual responsibilities of traditional leaders and the public in driving forward communal advancement. He encouraged the people of Imobi to back the new monarch and make sure that existing resources are effectively utilized for the betterment of the area. Obiri of Aiyepe, Oba Adebisi Okubanjo, called for an inclusive approach to governance, stressing that the success of Oba Balogun's rule will depend on his ability to unite all segments of the community. His capacity to gain the trust and cooperation of his subjects will be key to maintaining stability and fostering collective progress. In his remarks, Oba Balogun thanked the state government, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders for their involvement in the process that led to his appointment. He pledged to offer transformative leadership and collaborate with all sectors of Imobi to advance peace, unity, and sustainable development. The installation ceremony commenced at the Imobi Community Town Hall in Fotedo, where dignitaries from across the nation assembled to honor the new monarch. Notable attendees included the Aladeshonyin of Noforija and Paramount Ruler of Odo-Noforija Kingdom, Oba Babatunde Olaogun Ogunlaja, and several other influential figures from the Imobi community. The selection of Oba Balogun as the Alaye of Imobiland was initiated during the reign of the late Awujale, Oba Adetona, who supported the process and formed a committee comprising five esteemed traditional rulers from Ijebuland to oversee the appointment. This initiative was backed by the Aladeshonyin of Noforija and Oba Ogunlaja, who played a central role in guiding the selection process. The ceremony reflected the deep cultural significance of traditional leadership in Nigerian society, emphasizing the continuity of heritage and the enduring influence of ancestral traditions in shaping contemporary governance structures. As Oba Balogun assumes his new role, he faces the challenge of uniting diverse factions within Imobi and steering them toward common goals aligned with the broader aspirations of the Ogun State government.
