Reactions to delays in works on RavneDravograd road: Problems also for the logistics of the economy, craftsmen and entrepreneurs

The region of Koroška has been grappling with chronic issues related to its road infrastructure for years. Despite ongoing efforts by construction teams working on essential and valuable investments, delays have become a recurring theme. In areas such as Mežiška and Dravsko Dolina, the presence of numerous construction sites and prolonged works on state roads near Kovtrova Bridge in Dravograd, through the center of Prevalje, and the slow renewal of roads in the upper part of Mežiška Dolina between Mežica and Črno, among others, illustrate the persistent challenges. Recent developments indicate that even more recent projects are not immune to these problems. The deadline for completing the reconstruction of the state road connecting Mežiška Dolina and Dravsko Dolina has once again been extended. Initially set for June 2026, this date was not met, leading to a new extension until August 2026. However, due to technical difficulties, there are indications that this deadline might also be pushed back to the end of 2026. These repeated delays have placed additional strain on businesses and their partners, who rely heavily on efficient transportation and logistics. The economic conditions in the area are being closely monitored by the Business Chamber of Slovenia – Koroška Business Chamber. They emphasize their concern over the continually delayed completion dates for the road reconstruction project linking Dravograd and Ravné on Koroška. The consequences of these delays are increasingly felt by companies and their business partners. According to the chamber, each obstacle on the road translates into delays and associated costs. Extended travel times, vehicle wear, and tonnage restrictions over Sel further complicate matters for businesses operating in the region. Companies find it increasingly difficult to secure freight forwarders, who highlight the longer travel times, increased vehicle load, faster wear and tear, and limitations on transporting goods through Sel due to weight restrictions. The situation is exacerbated by multiple road construction sites in Mežiška Dolina, where a significant portion of Koroška's industry is concentrated. Many companies are exploring alternative routes through Austria to mitigate these challenges. Reliable traffic connections are crucial for effective logistics, maintaining the competitiveness of local businesses, and attracting new investments. Katja Pokeržnik, director of the Koroška Business Chamber, questions why poor planning of infrastructure projects has persisted in the region for decades. Many employees who commute daily across the valleys, such as those heading to factories in Črno na Koroškem, companies in Ravné, and other locations in Otiški Vrh, are also affected by the time lost due to road disruptions. Some opt for detours through Kotelj or Austria to ensure they arrive on time for work. Delays impact service activities, affecting both timelines and prices. Every minute counts in working hours. According to Blaž Cvar, president of the Craftsmen and Entrepreneurs Association of Slovenia, every obstacle on the road represents a delay and associated costs. He explains that the extra time spent traveling affects all individuals who need to go to different locations, such as moving from Ravné to Dravsko Dolina. This results in higher expenses since every minute spent on the road is effectively added to working hours. These challenges significantly affect craftsmen and entrepreneurs who must perform tasks at various locations. Cvar expresses concern about how long these issues will persist and urges decision-makers to expedite the work and reconsider ways to complete the projects sooner. He emphasizes the importance of timely completion of the road reconstruction project in Ravné.
