Newly appointed head of the Bjelovar Fair, Dario Turniški, shared a scanned version of his resume with journalists during a press conference, stating, “I really don’t know how it disappeared.” The incident has sparked controversy following claims by the mayor of Bjelovar, Dario Hrebak, that the document was missing from the tender documentation. Turniški, who took office after a public election process, was chosen by the Bjelovarsko-Bilogorska County, which holds a 60% stake in the fair, while the City of Bjelovar, holding 40%, voted against him due to concerns over his experience and qualifications. Despite these objections, he assumed his role just days ago. During the press conference, Turniški outlined several key initiatives aimed at revitalizing the fair. These include a financial review of operations dating back nearly three and a half years, the construction of a new exhibition hall valued at a minimum of five million euros, and plans to introduce video surveillance systems and an online ticketing system. He also mentioned potential collaborations with the Varazdin County and efforts to attract exhibitors who have previously participated in the fair. The mayor of Bjelovar, Hrebak, had previously claimed that Turniški’s resume was not included with the tender documents. In response, Turniški confirmed that all required documentation, including his resume, was submitted and signed by members of the selection committee, including the city's representative. However, upon his first day on the job, he discovered that his resume was missing. He presented scanned copies of his resume to journalists, asserting that they were identical to the ones he had submitted. Turniški emphasized that the documents were stored securely and that the absence of his resume was puzzling. He expressed willingness to discuss the issue further with Hrebak, dismissing rumors that the city might boycott his work. Turniški, a master’s degree holder in economics, stated that he has six and a half years of experience in finance and business partnerships, along with managerial and organizational skills. He noted that he has lived in Gudovac for two years and that many of his friends are leaders within the Croatian Farmers' Association. The fair, which is set to host its autumn edition in less than two months, faces ongoing challenges, including financial management and infrastructure improvements. Turniški has assured stakeholders that the city will contribute to resolving these issues, reinforcing his commitment to improving the fair’s operations.
