Eric Mišić, a 27-year-old man from Karlovac, has sparked controversy after posting a video online that shows him confronting police officers over their treatment of citizens waiting outside a police station during extreme heat. The video, which has been viewed nearly half a million times by Croatians, led to a formal complaint against him for violating public order and peace. Despite this, Mišić continues to speak out, calling the situation “my country’s story.” The incident unfolded over the weekend when temperatures reached 40 degrees Celsius. According to Mišić, dozens of people, including children and elderly individuals, were waiting outside the Karlovo police station. Some had brought water and food to each other, while others simply sat in the sun. When he noticed that the interior of the building was cooler than the exterior, he decided to document the situation. He entered the premises with a notebook, questioned the staff, and recorded his interactions. His actions, however, drew the attention of the police, who later issued a statement claiming that Mišić had given false testimony. In response, Mišić posted a new video directly to the camera, stating, “Good day, ladies and gentlemen. Since the Karlovo Police Station claimed that I gave false testimony, I have decided to tell the whole truth.” In the video, he recounted how he arrived with his mother to collect documents and was directed to wait outside with more than twenty people, despite being alone inside. He described the conditions as unusual, suspecting possible maintenance work, but found no such explanation. Mišić further highlighted two specific instances. One involved a woman in her seventies sitting outside, clearly uncomfortable in the heat. Another was his own mother, who was visibly unwell. He insisted that the indoor temperature was significantly cooler, around 15 degrees lower than outside, and asked witnesses to confirm these claims. He expressed frustration, saying, “I’m going to get consequences, but I couldn’t watch anymore.” The police responded by issuing a statement denying the allegations made by Mišić. They stated that the air conditioning system was not functioning and that the citizens had chosen to remain outside voluntarily. This contradicted Mišić’s account, leading to further public debate. Mišić’s video quickly gained traction on social media platforms, drawing both support and criticism. Many viewers praised his willingness to challenge authority, while others accused him of exaggerating the situation.
