New regional era beyond terror

Türkiye has pursued a 'terror-free' initiative aimed at reducing the influence of terrorist organizations like the PKK both domestically and regionally. While the PKK has been weakened within Turkey, it remains active in areas of Iraq and Syria, posing ongoing security concerns. In Syria, the YPG and its affiliates, which had previously exaggerated their military strength, were recently defeated by the Syrian National Army, leading to a shift in political dynamics. Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa declared that Kurds would be recognized as equal citizens, ending the need for separatist movements. The YPG subsequently dissolved and integrated into the Syrian state, with one of its leaders becoming an advisor to al-Sharaa. Meanwhile, Türkiye advanced its counterterrorism legal framework through parliamentary approval and the establishment of a dedicated oversight commission.
