The best turnip and beans are made by Nada Mrak Ćukova

Nada Mrak Ćukova has been declared the winner of this year's competition for the best homemade sour cabbage with beans at the two-day festival "Rokova va Lignje," held in Liganj. The event took place over the weekend, drawing large crowds who enjoyed a variety of activities combined with excellent local cuisine. Among the highlights was the traditional contest to determine the best prepared sour cabbage with beans, which had participants eagerly awaiting the results. The competition featured 29 contestants who each brought their own version of the dish. After tasting all entries, judges concluded that Nada Mrak Ćukova demonstrated the highest level of culinary skill, securing her victory against stiff competition. She edged out second-place finisher Vlasta Mandić and third-place contestant Morana Gržančić. This year’s festival marked a special occasion, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Liganj Fire Association, which organized the event in collaboration with several local groups. These included the Liganj Butchers' Club, the Liganj-Tuliševica Pusnik Society, the Local Council of Lovranšćina, and the Municipality of Lovran. The festival, known as "Rokova va Lignje," has become a significant annual gathering in the region, attracting visitors from nearby areas. It combines cultural traditions with community spirit, offering a platform for local artisans, food producers, and performers to showcase their talents.
