Museum housing rare palm-leaf manuscripts gets ₹5 crore funding boost

The Andhra Sahitya Parishad Government Museum and Research Institute in Kakinada is set to start constructing a new building in early August after receiving ₹5 crore in funding from the Ministry of Culture under the Museum Grant Scheme. The state government and central ministry will jointly fund the project with a 80:20 ratio, totaling ₹10 crore. The museum houses approximately 5,000 palm-leaf manuscripts from the 17th to 19th centuries, covering various academic and cultural fields. These manuscripts were recently chemically treated for preservation, and the museum also preserves other historical artifacts such as Buddhist pillars and ancient coins. The new facility will be a four-story building, though temporary storage arrangements for the collections during construction are still being finalized.
