World Cup2026: Belgian federation accuses FIFA of lack of explanation in Balogun case

The Belgian Football Association (RBFA) has accused FIFA of failing to provide adequate explanations regarding the handling of a disciplinary decision involving Nigerian player Folarin Balogun. In a statement, the RBFA said it sent a letter to FIFA requesting a copy of the decision, an explanation of the process used, and clarification of FIFA’s position on applicable regulations. According to the RBFA, FIFA responded by claiming the correspondence was a formal appeal and that a referee had been assigned, but did not offer any further information. The association argues that under FIFA’s rules, an appeal is only valid if the decision was communicated to the appealing party beforehand. Additionally, the RBFA claims that during a meeting related to the World Cup 2026 quarterfinals, FIFA deliberately omitted a section on automatic suspensions—a topic previously discussed in earlier matches.
