Telangana BJP leaders have publicly challenged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s handling of key portfolios, including education, municipal administration, and urban development. On Monday, BJP MLA Palvai Harish Babu accused the chief minister of failing to produce tangible outcomes in these sectors. According to reports, Mr. Reddy has criticized engineering students as “criminal waste,” yet his own governance record has come under scrutiny. Mr. Babu emphasized that the chief minister should instead address systemic flaws within the state’s educational framework. He stated that no substantial reforms have been introduced in higher or technical education, noting that there are approximately 3,000 vacancies in relevant institutions. Additionally, many schools and colleges reportedly lack essential facilities, including toilets, while some hostels operate in substandard conditions. Rather than expanding hostel capacity, the government has allocated ₹200 crore towards integrated schools, according to the MLA. The criticism extended to the Congress-led government’s decision to approve 60 new engineering colleges, despite the B.V.R. Mohan Reddy Committee’s recommendation for a moratorium on such expansions in 2018. Mr. Babu claimed none of the committee’s 15 proposed measures have been enacted. He also attributed the decline in educational quality to insufficient attention and financial backing during the tenure of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Furthermore, he suggested that the chief minister’s remarks toward students and educators stem from the government’s failure to resolve outstanding fee reimbursement disputes. Public representatives, including himself, have reportedly struggled to secure meetings with the chief minister to obtain approval for new degree colleges. The MLA also highlighted the deteriorating state of urban infrastructure following recent rainfall, suggesting that the government has neglected critical maintenance efforts. Meanwhile, Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao has expressed confidence in the party’s growing influence among voters. Speaking to party supporters in Baltimore, U.S., Mr. Rao asserted that residents are increasingly disillusioned with both the BRS and Congress parties, leading them to view the BJP as the sole credible political option. He cited the party’s electoral successes, including eight Lok Sabha seats and notable wins in recent MLC elections, as evidence of its rising prominence. Surveys, he claimed, indicate a surge in public support for the BJP. Mr. Rao, who is attending the 19th American Telugu Association (ATA) Conference and Youth Convention, accused the BRS and Congress of being “two sides of the same coin” for their collaboration in opposing BJP candidates in local elections. He also noted the continued alignment of the BRS with the Congress on national issues. In addition to political strategy, Mr. Rao focused on the Centre’s developmental initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He praised the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government for advancing infrastructure projects designed to create employment opportunities. He highlighted Modi’s leadership in managing the West Asia conflict without experiencing an oil supply disruption, contrasting this with other nations that faced fuel rationing. The central government’s emphasis on job creation was complemented by programs such as Startup India, Stand-Up India, and the MUDRA Yojana, which have contributed to India becoming the world’s second-largest startup ecosystem. Mr. Rao used Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace as an example of entrepreneurial achievement, noting the company’s recent successful rocket launch. He also mentioned the doubling of the nation’s airport count, with Telangana poised to gain new facilities in Warangal and Adilabad. The BJP leader further outlined developments in Telangana, including the establishment of AIIMS and the Central Tribal University, the approval of the Zaheerabad Industrial Smart City, and enhancements to rail manufacturing capabilities in Kazipet. He also referenced the PM MITRA Textile Park in Warangal and increased railway funding, station improvements, national highway expansions, free food grain distributions, and annual ₹6,000 assistance for qualifying farmers under federal schemes. These initiatives, he argued, reflect the Centre’s commitment to fostering economic growth and improving living standards across the region.
