The Ministry declares that the subsidisation of the purchase of electric vehicles is terminated

The Ministry has announced that the subsidy program for purchasing electric vehicles will conclude soon due to near exhaustion of available funds. A public call for applications for subsidies for electric vehicles will close once the value of submitted applications reaches the total amount allocated for the call, which is 25.6 million euros for individuals and eight million euros for business operators. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, which took over responsibility after the reorganization of state administration, stated that the previous ministry for environment, climate change, and energy had handled this task before. The current public call, launched on May 12th, received 3,105 applications from individuals totaling 19.58 million euros in requested subsidies, and 1,125 applications from business operators requesting 6.39 million euros. These figures were published on the website of Borza, which administers the call. Officials at Borza indicated that based on the rate of application submissions, the funds are expected to be fully distributed by mid-August. All funds allocated for subsidies for electric vehicles from the climate fund, originally part of the measure for zero-emission vehicles and infrastructure for zero-emission vehicles under the valid regulation on the use of climate fund resources for 2025–2028, have been used up according to the ministry’s statement. In previous years, subsidies for electric vehicles were also funded through European Union resources within the framework of implementing the recovery and resilience plan, which concluded in June 2026. Under the recovery and resilience plan, 43.9 million euros were earmarked for electric vehicles between 2024 and 2026. The ministry noted that EU funds represented a significant portion of public funding for these subsidies. With the absence of EU funds, future support will rely exclusively on national resources, which are limited, requiring careful planning and efficient use of public funds. At present, the ministry cannot provide information regarding the conditions, amounts, or timing of future public calls. Further financing of subsidies for electric vehicles will depend primarily on the adoption of a new regulation on the use of climate fund resources, which the government is expected to review in the autumn. If a new public call is issued, it is anticipated that the existing practice will continue, allowing applicants to qualify for subsidies even if they purchased electric vehicles prior to the publication of the call, provided they meet the criteria outlined in the call. The ministry emphasized its awareness of the importance of informing vehicle buyers about the possibility of subsidies and pledged efforts to communicate relevant information to the public as soon as it becomes available.
