Minister of Security opens to RN formula to save constitutional reform: We did not fall in love with our idea

In a visit to the National Congress, Chilean Minister of Security Martin Arrau (Republican) achieved two legislative advances under the Anti-Crime Organization and Terrorism Agenda (ACOT). The bill increasing penalties for offenses against police was approved by the Chamber, and another initiative to modernize the Carabineros career advanced in the Senate's Security Committee. However, the core of this agenda, the constitutional reform strengthening security measures, remains stalled. This presidential proposal aims to amend the Constitution to establish public safety as a state duty, create a registry of criminal organizations, restrict tax benefits for convicted offenders, and introduce a new State of Constitutional Exception for Public Safety. Since its introduction on August 17, the reform has not been discussed in the Constitution Committee due to lack of political agreement with lawmakers, including within his own party. In response, Arrau expressed openness to adopting a formula proposed by Senator Paulina Núñez (RN) and colleague Andrés Longton (RN), which suggests reinforcing the current Emergency State in the Southern Macrozone rather than introducing a fifth constitutional
