Retail is booming, most Czechs spend on clothes and shoes
Czech retail sales increased in May compared to last year, with the highest growth recorded in specialized clothing and footwear stores. Sales of non-food goods rose by 7.4%, while food sales grew by 2.9%. In contrast, sales of fuel decreased by 0.8% compared to the same period last year. Specialized clothing and footwear retailers saw a 15.7% increase in revenue, while non-specialized stores with a focus on food had a 3% rise in sales. Internet and mail-order businesses experienced the highest growth at 11.6%. Sales in computer and communication device stores declined by 5.4%. Motor vehicle sales and repair services also showed growth, both year-on-year and month-on-month.
