The Left wants to abolish the holiday: What's the reason?

Members of the Left Party and the Green Party have submitted a proposal to amend the law on hidden war graves and burial of victims, aiming to remove the clause that designates May 17th as a national memorial day for victims of communist violence. The Left Party claims the introduction of this memorial day serves an ideological purpose rather than fostering reconciliation, warning it would deepen societal divisions annually. They argue that the state should not interpret history but leave it to appropriate institutions such as universities and museums. The proposal is expected to gain support,

Levica in Vesna so danes v Državni zboru vložili predlog sprememb zakona o prikritih vojnih grobiščih in pokopu žrtev.
