Suzuki has returned to the Argentine market with one of its most iconic models, the Swift, marking a significant shift in its strategy toward electrification. After several years away, the Japanese automaker reintroduced the hatchback, which has been a staple in the compact car segment since its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1983. Now in its fifth generation, the Swift has sold over 10 million units globally, making it one of the best-selling vehicles in its category. This time around, the model comes equipped with a mild hybrid electric powertrain (MHEV), signaling Suzuki’s entry into the growing trend of electrified vehicles in Argentina. The new Swift is imported directly from India and is available in a single trim level, the GLX, offering both a manual transmission and a continuously variable automatic (CVT) option. The vehicle is designed with urban driving in mind, featuring a compact size and agile handling. It measures 3.86 meters in length, 1.735 meters in width, and 1.52 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.45 meters, placing it among the smallest in its class. Its trunk offers 265 liters of space, expandable to 580 liters when the rear seats are folded down. Exterior design retains the youthful and modern aesthetic that has defined the Swift for decades. The latest version features more pronounced lines and deeper creases, giving it a distinctive look. A straight, short hood, curved windshield, and a bold black grille with a glossy finish contribute to its contemporary appeal. The front lights have a pentagonal shape with integrated daytime running lamps (DRLs), all illuminated by LEDs. Side mirrors feature small fog lamps positioned low, while the bodywork includes proportioned flanks and a small roof spoiler. The wheels are 15-inch alloy rims paired with 185/65 tires, suitable for city environments. From the rear, the wide body and a small tailgate stand out, complemented by high side skirts and small taillights. Inside, the Swift maintains a simple yet functional layout, with controls arranged for easy access. The cabin blends physical buttons with digital interfaces, ensuring usability without sacrificing style. Materials and finishes are of good quality, and the seating position is comfortable, with adjustable steering column settings for height and reach. Front space is generous, though rear seating is suited for two adults. Equipped with essential comfort features, the Swift includes climate control, keyless entry, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, USB ports, reverse camera, and rear parking sensors. These features cater to the practical needs of everyday drivers. Safety is a major focus, with the Swift being one of the most well-equipped entry-level cars in Argentina. It includes anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic brake force distribution (EBD), hill start assist, stability control, six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Features such as forward collision warning, emergency braking assistance, lane-keeping aid, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and cross-traffic alert enhance safety for both driver and passengers. The engine is a 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline unit with dual injection, producing 80 horsepower at 5,700 RPM and 11.4 kgm (112 Nm) of torque at 4,300 RPM. Power delivery is managed through a CVT automatic transmission, with front-wheel drive. The mild-hybrid system adds a 12-volt battery and an integrated starter generator (ISG) capable of generating up to 2 kilowatts, enhancing fuel efficiency without compromising performance.
