Turkey has banned the docking of the LGBTQ+-friendly cruise ship Scarlet Lady at the port of Kușadasi, stating that the vessel contradicts Turkish values and societal norms. The governor’s office in Aydın province, appointed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stated on X that the docking was 'absolutely out of the question.' According to DPA, the ship, owned by a U.S.-based company, was denied access to both Aydın province and Istanbul because it is associated with groups known for behaviors deemed incompatible with Turkish moral values. The ban applies specifically to the scheduled visit on July 7th, with no changes expected to other cruise traffic. The U.S. tour operator Atlantis Events confirmed the denial of docking permission and announced route adjustments, including stops in Cairo and Crete.
