The Clinical Hospital Center Zagreb has introduced a new generation of computed tomography (CT), known as photon-counting CT, making it the first public hospital in Croatia to adopt this technology. The device costs 3.5 million euros and uses advanced technology that counts individual X-ray photons, allowing for higher-resolution images and improved tissue differentiation compared to previous models. This advancement facilitates the detection of smaller anatomical details and pathological changes, particularly in coronary artery examinations, tumor diagnostics, neurological conditions, and lung diseases. Additionally, the technology reduces radiation exposure for patients during scans. The acquisition of this equipment is part of a broader investment cycle worth 20 million euros aimed at upgrading the hospital’s medical facilities.
