Kadyrov is not happy with the decision of the Russian ruling party, but he is forced to run in the presidential election in Chechnya
The Russian United Russia party has selected Ramzan Kadyrov as its candidate for the upcoming Chechen president election. While Kadyrov expressed personal dissatisfaction with the decision, stating he would have preferred another candidate due to the significant responsibility involved, he acknowledged his obligation to participate in the election. Kadyrov, who has led Chechnya since 2007, previously won the 2021 presidential election with over 99.7% of the votes according to the Central Election Commission. His health has been a growing concern, with reports indicating he suffered from acute pancreatitis in 2019, which involves necrotic tissue in the pancreas. Additionally, Kadyrov recently requested pardon from Vladimir Putin, and there are concerns about his health affecting his leadership. The Kremlin appears to be closely monitoring the succession process, as Kadyrov’s son is reportedly being considered as his potential successor.
