Katarina Vučić, former deputy mayor of Vinkovci and a member of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), has resigned from the party following allegations of a child's injury at newly opened public swimming pools in the city. According to her Facebook post, she was informed on the same day she requested documentation related to the incident that all her authorizations within the eTax system had been revoked. These included access to services related to value-added tax, income tax, contributions, corporate profit tax, consumption tax, fiscalization, submission of requests, bookkeeping, management of authorizations, and user accounts. Vučić stated that she did not claim the request for documents was the reason for the revocation of her authorizations, but questioned whether there could be a connection given the timing of the two events. She emphasized that if there were administrative, legal, or other justifications for the revocation, they should be clearly explained. The incident reportedly occurred shortly after the opening of the new pools. Vučić mentioned that she spoke with the mother of the injured child, who told her that the child required emergency surgery and stitches due to the injury. The mother expressed concern over potential further injuries to other children at the location and urged the city to prevent such incidents. Vučić requested records of coordination meetings and technical inspections related to the area where the incident occurred, as well as a complete audit that would address the questions she raised in her email. However, she has yet to receive these documents. Vučić’s resignation from the HDZ came after she sought answers regarding the child's injury. She continues to serve as deputy mayor of Vinkovci independently. Mayor Josip Romić remains a member of the HDZ. Vučić described the sequence of events as straightforward and questioned whether the timing suggested a possible link between her request for information and the revocation of her authorizations. She indicated that she would continue to ask questions despite the loss of her privileges. The local government has not responded to inquiries about the incident or the revocation of Vučić's authorizations. The Tax Administration has not provided details on when the authorizations were revoked, who requested their revocation, which specific authorizations were affected, or the reasons behind the decision. Vučić noted that the mother of the injured child mentioned that during the construction phase, there were warnings about certain works not being carried out properly, and this was discussed in coordination meetings. Despite this, Vučić has not received the requested records of these meetings or the technical inspection reports. She emphasized that the revocation of her authorizations limited her access to systems and processes she previously used on behalf of the city. She has not yet received an explanation for the revocation.
