Fire hits commercial premises in downtown Santiago: no injuries reported

A fire broke out in a commercial store located in the center of Santiago during the early hours of Saturday, prompting emergency services to declare a third-level alarm due to the intensity of the incident. The fire started at 3:30 AM and produced a large column of smoke. According to the commander of the Santiago Fire Department, Giorgio Tromben, 19 companies and 21 vehicles were deployed to the site, located at the intersection of Santa Rosa and Santa Isabel in the commune. The affected location was a Chinese mall, where firefighters faced challenges due to the presence of flammable and toxic materials such as textiles and plastics. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and the situation has been brought under control by emergency teams. Firefighters are now focusing on extinguishing any remaining hotspots inside the building and will initiate investigative procedures to determine the cause of the fire. Residents in the area were advised to take preventive measures, including keeping windows and doors closed to avoid potential smoke inhalation.
