Auto Bild has recently highlighted 12 different models across various classes that have demonstrated above-average longevity during extensive testing and through experiences with used car examples. For some of these models, 200,000 kilometers is nothing unusual, and certain units even exceed double that figure. Among them is the BMW Series 3 (G20). This is one of the youngest models on the list. The BMW 320d Touring tested by Auto Bild covered nearly 100,000 kilometers with almost no problems, particularly praised for its sturdy construction. Potential weaknesses include suspension, slightly increased oil consumption, and issues with emissions tests. The Mercedes A-Class W176 stands out significantly. A unit with a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine approached an astonishing 500,000 kilometers during long-term testing, with no serious faults outside of typical wear parts. Even more impressive is the Mercedes E-Class W212/S212. On the market, there are not uncommon units with over half a million kilometers, which is why they have been especially valued by taxi drivers and long-distance drivers for years. However, with the diesel OM651, it is necessary to check the timing belt and injectors. Also on the list is the Mercedes V-Class W447. Units with more than 250,000 kilometers are not rare, although attention should be paid to potential issues with the later diesel OM654, specifically problems with valve rocker arms that could lead to severe head damage in the worst case. One of the more interesting cars is the third-generation Toyota Prius. After completing the first 100,000 kilometers of Auto Bild’s test with practically only two faulty bulbs, the test was extended to 200,000 kilometers, without any major breakdowns. On the market, units with more than 300,000 kilometers can be found. Another Toyota on the list is the Avensis T25, produced between 2003 and 2008. Auto Bild considers this model more robust than its successor, the T27. Units with more than 200,000 kilometers are still not uncommon. With some diesel variants, attention should be given to injectors, fuel consumption, and issues related to the turbocharger. Surprise for some buyers might be the Tesla Model S. Auto Bild notes that units with several hundred thousand kilometers are not unusual because the battery and power technology can prove very durable. Therefore, checking the condition of the battery and how the previous owner charged it is crucial when purchasing. Volvo XC90 first generation is another known long-distance runner, especially in five-cylinder diesel variants. On the market, there are cars with 300,000, 400,000, and even more kilometers. Weak points may include the turbocharger, parts of the suspension, and the belt drive, whose replacement intervals should definitely be checked. For the Croatian market, the Volkswagen Passat B8 is particularly interesting. Although many units quickly accumulate kilometers as company cars, engines, transmissions, and other technical components often remain in good condition even after 200,000 kilometers. During technical inspections, some issues with brakes tend to appear more frequently, while owners know how to deal with electronic malfunctions. On the list is also the much larger Volkswagen Touareg 7P. Especially widespread are the V6 TDI variants, but with older units, detailed inspection of the air suspension, electronics, and timing belt is required. The metallic knocking sound upon cold start of the V6 TDI engine may indicate a problem with the tensioner. The Toyota Land Cruiser 150 may be the least surprising on the list. Auto Bild states that a lifespan of at least 300,000 kilometers is almost expected for this model, although it is necessary to check how much the vehicle was used off-road. Known issues with the 3.0-liter diesel include injector problems. The last entry is the Lexus GS 450h third generation. Despite its complexity, it continues to impress with its reliability and performance.
