The IOC rehabilitates Russia, the suspension of the Moscow Olympic Committee is lifted, but the ban on flags and anthems remains.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has temporarily revoked the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), which was in place since October 12, 2023. This decision follows a legal review by the IOC’s Legal Affairs Commission, which determined that the ROC no longer includes organizations operating in territories under the jurisdiction of Ukraine’s National Olympic Committee. The ROC also assured that it does not engage in activities in those regions. While the IOC continues to monitor the situation closely, the decision allows Russian athletes to compete in team sports and qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the 2028 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Val di Fassa. However, they must still comply with strict anti-doping requirements. The use of Russia’s national symbols such as the flag and anthem remains restricted to individual federations and event organizers. Russia welcomed the decision, with Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev stating that the IOC is sending a clear message that the Olympic movement should remain separate from politics.
