The revelation comes from an interview with Vibe Magazine, where he detailed the challenges he faced in pursuing a music career against the expectations of his family, who wanted him to complete his education and take over his father's business. At the time of the song's release, Davido was still a teenager, navigating both the pressures of familial obligation and the demands of building a music career. Davido described the period leading up to Dami Duro's launch as particularly difficult.
