South African DJ and television personality Lamiez Holworthy has shared a deeply personal account of a severe health crisis that left her critically ill and battling for her life. In a heartfelt post on Facebook, she revealed how close she came to losing her life, describing the experience as “scary and painful beyond words.” She recounted being rushed to the hospital on Sunday after experiencing a critical health emergency, which required immediate medical intervention. Her condition, initially deemed non-life-threatening by her management, turned out to be far more serious than previously stated. According to Holworthy, she suffered significant internal bleeding, with doctors considering a blood transfusion due to the volume of blood lost. She expressed disbelief at her ability to communicate her story, calling it a “miracle,” and emphasized the physical and emotional toll the ordeal had taken. The DJ described the trauma her body endured, highlighting the extreme stress placed on her by her demanding career as a working woman and entertainer. In reflecting on the incident, Holworthy admitted that the experience had prompted her to reassess her lifestyle and priorities. She stressed the importance of listening to one's body and rejecting the notion that self-sacrifice for professional success is noble. “There is no honour in working yourself to death,” she wrote, questioning whether all the effort put into her career would have meaning if she were no longer alive to appreciate it. She also underscored the need to remember one’s humanity amid a hectic schedule, stating, “I am Human and not a robot.” Holworthy also addressed recent body-shaming comments directed at her, particularly concerning a photo she had posted. She explained that the image was intentionally chosen to challenge unrealistic beauty standards, as she wished to show that women can have imperfections such as cellulite and stretch marks. She had discussed the outfit with an audience in Bloemfontein, emphasizing that she was simply being authentic. She criticized the use of the photograph during her medical crisis, especially during Women’s Month, arguing that such behavior was unbecoming and harmful.
