HNB: Banks in the first half of the year with a profit margin of 5,5%

According to the latest data published by the Croatian National Bank (HNB), credit institutions in Croatia, comprising 19 banks and one housing savings bank, reported a profit of 751.7 million euros during the first half of 2026, which represents a decrease of approximately 43 million euros compared to the same period last year. This corresponds to a 5.5% decline in profits compared to June 2025. The return on assets (ROA) dropped to 1.6%, while the return on equity (ROE) was recorded at 15.3%. Out of the 19 credit institutions, 17 reported profits, while three, Addiko Bank, J&T Bank, and Imex Bank, recorded losses totaling around 6.5 million euros. Zagreb Bank had the highest profit of 251.1 million euros, followed by Erste & Steiermärkische Bank with 176.6 million euros and PBZ (Privredna Banka Zagreb) with 144.7 million euros. Overall, the total assets of credit institutions amounted to 91.7 billion euros, showing a slight increase of 0.6% compared to the end of 2025.
