Gorenak / Stevanović's decision will not affect the work of the government

The Slovenian government led by Prime Minister Janez Janša has initiated a proposal known as "Partnerstvo za uspešno Slovenijo" (Partnership for a Successful Slovenia). This initiative was extended to all opposition parties and members of national communities following the formation of the government. The aim of this proposal was to foster inclusive dialogue and collaboration in shaping legislation even before its formal consideration by the government. However, all opposition parties, including the Resnica party, have declined to sign the agreement. Despite this rejection, the government remains committed to proceeding with its legislative agenda based on its own program and coalition agreement.

According to Vinko Gorenak, the state secretary in the cabinet of the prime minister, the decision of individual opposition parties, including Zoran Stevanović and his party Resnica, will not affect the functioning of the government. He emphasized that the government's operations are grounded in its program and coalition contract. Decisions regarding legislative proposals ultimately rest with the vote in the National Assembly. Gorenak noted that there is evident programmatic alignment between the coalition's solutions and the Resnica party's program on certain areas. This alignment is also reflected in the support for specific legislative proposals within the National Assembly.

The government's initiative to form a partnership aimed to include all opposition parties in the legislative process from the early stages of drafting laws. According to Gorenak, the coalition would provide signed copies of legislatively aligned laws, which could be considered by the signatories before their official submission to the government. These laws were intended to be submitted at least ten days prior to their consideration by the government. However, none of the opposition parties accepted the invitation to join this collaborative effort.

Zoran Stevanović, leader of the Resnica party, publicly announced the rejection of the partnership offer earlier in the day. Prior to this, other opposition parties such as the Left, the Civic List, Movement Freedom, and the Social Democrats had also refused to sign the agreement. Each of these parties expressed the view that the document was content-free and that they were prepared to support legislative solutions that would benefit the country. Their refusal highlights a broader skepticism towards the government's approach to legislative collaboration.

The government's stance is clear despite the opposition's rejection. It maintains that its legislative agenda will proceed independently, relying on the support of the National Assembly for final decisions. Gorenak reiterated that the government's work is based on its program and coalition agreement, emphasizing that the rejection by opposition parties does not impede the government's ability to function effectively. The focus remains on implementing policies outlined in the government's program, with the understanding that legislative proposals will be subject to approval through the democratic process in the National Assembly.
