Gianluca doesn't let go of the trap: I feel this record is the best thing I've ever done

Gianluca, known as the "prince of Chilean trap," has announced the release of his third album under the G Love series, titled G Love 3. The announcement came during a February afternoon in 2026, when Gianluca visited a hair salon near a strip club on Merced Street in central Santiago. Dressed in a black muscle shirt despite the intense summer heat, he sat on a bench facing a mirror and began cutting his own hair. As the scissors worked, the thick black locks fell away, revealing the shorter, more classic cut he had sported in his early career. Gianluca described the act as a form of artistic expression, symbolizing a return to his roots. “The hair represents everything I was doing in the previous era,” he told Culto. “It’s a closure of a cycle and the start of a new one.” The change wasn’t just aesthetic. Gianluca revealed that personal circumstances played a role in his decision. He had suffered a spinal fracture earlier that year, and family matters had been accumulating. “It felt like a turning point,” he explained. “A moment to reset and begin again.” This shift marked the beginning of a new chapter, both personally and professionally. The new phase is reflected in G Love 3, which Gianluca describes as part of a broader narrative within his discography. The album continues the G Love saga begun with two earlier albums released in 2018 and 2020. “I’ve always liked music sagas,” he said. “I wanted to create one in my catalog.” He noted that even while working on other projects, he had been developing this third installment in parallel. “From the second album, I knew a third was coming,” he added. “It was a project that was being built alongside others.” Gianluca’s output has been prolific. Over time, he has crafted a wide range of tracks, some dating back to 2022. One such song, SON BALAS, had been in the works for years before finally making its way onto the album. Meanwhile, newer compositions, including the closing track PLUGG DISS, were completed just over a year and a half prior to the album’s release. “There have been many versions and tracklists,” he admitted. “Even the final mix of this version hasn’t been finalized recently.” On August 13, 2026, Gianluca gave an interview with Andres Perez, discussing his rapid pace of musical output. When asked why he chose to release so much music in such a short period, he responded, “I produce a high volume of songs, so it’s natural that if they aren’t released, they accumulate. Also, there’s a rhythm to how things work in the industry, things need to come out at a certain pace. During this creative period, I wrote around 80 songs, 50 of them trap-related, with many more that will never see the light of day.” He emphasized that his motivation comes from his own production process rather than market demands. G Love 3 is structured as a double album. Part A focuses on trap music, while Part B promises a more varied sound, set to be unveiled in the coming months. “Part B has a more sensitive energy,” Gianluca explained. “I think it’ll be darker, and include some more danceable tracks, like a few reggaetons that didn’t make it into this version.” He called the format a milestone, noting it’s the first double album by a Chilean urban artist. “I love the idea of having two sides,” he said. “It’s bold, and I think not many artists dare to take such a risk. It’s about meeting expectations and pushing boundaries.” Notably, the opening track, ME RENUEVO, serves as a declaration of intent. The song features a sample from a Julio Iglesias track, with Gianluca singing, “In 2025, I’m 28, I only renew / When you first saw me, you knew this was new.” The lyrics reflect both personal renewal and artistic evolution.
