Violence in India after 11-year-old's murder

A 11-year-old girl was raped and murdered in eastern India, leading to violent protests where dozens were arrested for acts of violence and vandalism. Police reported that an innocent person was lynched by an angry crowd during the unrest. A senior police officer stated 35 individuals had been detained, while four men were initially arrested for the crime. One suspect was shot dead during a failed attempt to flee. The victim’s mother refused to accept her son’s body, stating, 'For the sin my son committed, he has received his punishment.' Protests began after the girl's body was found on Sunday, with demonstrators blocking roads and setting vehicles ablaze in the city of Baruipur, West Bengal. The state's chief minister, Suvendu Adhikari, vowed to take a firm stance against those responsible.
