GEN-I to boost international growth

GEN-I has taken a major step forward in the market for battery storage solutions, expanding its position among leading providers of energy management and market optimization services in Central and Southeastern Europe. The company has assumed operational control and market optimization of two large battery storage systems in Bulgaria and signed agreements for nine additional projects, significantly broadening its international presence. These new projects will double the capacity of battery storage assets managed by GEN-I in Bulgaria within the next year. The developments mark a strategic move in the rapidly growing European energy storage sector, where battery storage plays an increasingly vital role in the transition to renewable energy. The two projects in question are located in the Bulgarian towns of Brusartsy and Byala Slatina. In Brusartsy, GEN-I has taken over commercial operations and market optimization of a 150 MW / 379 MWh battery storage system. In Byala Slatina, the company manages another system with a capacity of 50 MW / 126 MWh. Both systems were developed and constructed by SUNOTEC, one of the leading European developers of solar power plants and energy storage systems. The facilities have already been integrated into the electricity grid, enabling them to participate actively in energy markets. As exclusive market optimizer and trading partner for both projects, GEN-I provides comprehensive commercial operation services, including access to energy trading platforms, balancing services, market optimization, and guaranteed minimum revenue levels. The company also assumes all associated market risks. SUNOTEC is developing these projects as part of its investment strategy, with full commercial operations expected within the next twelve months. This expansion reflects the growing importance of energy storage in supporting the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid and enhancing grid flexibility.
