According to statements from local pool authorities, both Leipzig and Chemnitz have recorded higher visitor numbers than in the prior year’s bathing season. In Dresden, the number of visitors so far this year matches last year's figures, though one outdoor pool has closed earlier than usual due to operational adjustments. Weather conditions played a key role in shaping the early part of the bathing season. Warm temperatures in May and particularly in June contributed to a rise in visitors, according to Katja Gläß, spokesperson for Leipzig’s sports pools. However, the July period saw more subdued attendance due to variable weather and ongoing vacation periods. Officials in Dresden noted similar trends, with their colleague Lars Kühl stating that the fluctuating weather impacted visitor turnout during the month. In response to favorable weather, some pools in Plauen extended their operating hours by an hour last week. This adjustment was made possible by the warm conditions typical of late summer. Meanwhile, larger cities such as Leipzig and Chemnitz have maintained standard opening times, with most pools open until 8 p.m. The Schreber Pool in Leipzig even extends its hours to 9 p.m., while Chemnitzer pools remain open until 8 p.m. In Dresden, the general opening time is 7 p.m., although the Georg-Arnhold Pool operates later, until 9 p.m. The official swimming season is expected to continue through at least the end of August, with some areas potentially extending operations into early September. In Chemnitz, the season will conclude on August 30, but officials have indicated that additional days could be added if weather forecasts remain favorable. Similarly, Leipzig plans to keep two of its pools open for an extra week starting the weekend of the first week in September, contingent upon suitable conditions. Dresden’s pools, however, will close on September 6 and 13 respectively, following the traditional schedule. Public swimming pools in Saxony typically operate under strict guidelines regarding water quality, safety protocols, and crowd management.
