Despite being considered a brilliant solution at the time, the design faced significant technical challenges, including the complexity of the mechanism and uncertainty about aerodynamic forces during operation. The project was commissioned by the Italian Ministry of Aviation for the Schneider Trophy race in 1929, but Pegna ultimately abandoned the idea due to practical limitations.
