The construction of the geothermal sports and recreation park Wellovar in the Bjelovar suburb of Veliko Korenovo has entered its final phase, with an opening planned for September 29, coinciding with the Day of Bjelovar and its defenders. The project, valued at €41.5 million excluding VAT, includes 10 pools, including a closed Olympic-sized pool, making it the largest investment in Bjelovar's history. Around 260–270 workers are working daily on the site, which spans 14,000 square meters with nearly 4,000 square meters of water surface. The facility will be almost entirely energy-independent, using geothermal and solar power. Entrance fees are expected to be 10–15% cheaper than comparable thermal complexes, with special offers planned for schools, retirees, veterans, and sports clubs. The complex will employ 45 people, many returning to Bjelovar from Germany and other parts of Croatia. Future plans include drilling exploratory and injection geothermal wells if state funding is approved.
