FG returns 13 oil blocks to licensing pool

The Nigerian Federal Government has announced that 13 oil and gas blocks, which failed to attract investor bids during the 2025 Licensing Round, will be returned to the national licensing pool. The announcement was made by Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), at the 2025 Commercial Bid Conference in Abuja. Out of the 50 blocks offered, only 37 received expressions of interest, leading to the return of the remaining 13. Despite this, NUPRC reported a positive response, noting that 143 companies submitted around 200 bids after undergoing prequalification. The licensing round, part of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021, aimed to boost oil and gas exploration and production by attracting qualified investors.
