It's an abuse: Poduje demands answers from the Monuments Council for a work paralyzed for more than six months

The Ministry of Housing and Urbanism’s minister, Iván Poduje, has accused the National Monuments Council of acting irresponsibly after a residential complex project in Quinta Normal was halted for over six months due to archaeological findings. In a public statement shared via his social media accounts, Poduje described the situation as “not just bureaucracy, it's an abuse,” emphasizing the impact on families awaiting housing and workers whose jobs have been suspended. Poduje was present at the site, located on Dr. Lucas Sierra Street in Quinta Normal, where he reiterated the importance of accelerating the construction of a four-building residential complex with eight floors each, including underground parking. The project, developed by Democorp, aims to provide homes for 480 families and includes extensive green spaces such as plazas, children’s play areas, sports facilities, communal spaces, bike storage, and other amenities. According to the company’s website, the design prioritizes quality of life for residents. However, the progress of the project came to a standstill following an archaeological discovery at the site. This led to the suspension of work until further assessments could be completed. Poduje highlighted the consequences of this delay, noting that 480 families remain without housing and that employment opportunities linked to the project have also been affected. He expressed frustration over the prolonged halt, stating that the issue transcends routine administrative procedures and instead reflects a failure to address urgent national needs. In a detailed account, Poduje outlined the financial burden placed on the state by maintaining the excavation efforts and keeping the project inactive.
