Entry-level chip hiring jumps 47% in AI boom

Entry-level hiring in South Korea’s semiconductor industry has surged by 47 percent compared to the same period last year, driven by the ongoing artificial intelligence (AI) chip boom. According to data from the recruitment platform JobKorea, this marks the largest annual increase in entry-level semiconductor job postings since records began tracking such metrics. In the first half of this year, entry-level roles made up 12.2 percent of all semiconductor job postings, a jump of 2.4 percentage points from the previous year. Specifically, both Nvidia and Micron saw their entry-level job postings grow by approximately 50 percent compared to the same period last year, according to JobKorea’s analysis. Searches for SK hynix on the platform increased by 180 percent year-on-year, indicating a growing appetite among candidates to enter the semiconductor field. Similarly, leading semiconductor companies have witnessed a marked uptick in users bookmarking their recruitment pages, suggesting a broader trend of engagement and preparation among prospective employees. As the second-half hiring season approaches, JobKorea announced plans to enhance its support for semiconductor job seekers. The company is expanding its “High Tech” recruitment service, offering real-time access to up to 5,000 job postings. Alongside this, the platform is revamping its content section to provide more detailed career guidance and insights into the evolving landscape of semiconductor employment. A representative from JobKorea noted that even entry-level applicants are becoming increasingly selective, carefully assessing whether they align with specific roles.
