M.B. Patil pitches KWIN City to Luxembourg; plans a Japan semiconductor roadshow at Fukuoka

M.B. Patil, the Karnataka Minister for Large and Medium Industries, has pitched the state's KWIN City industrial township to Luxembourg and outlined plans for a semiconductor-focused outreach program in Fukuoka, Japan. The initiative comes ahead of the visit of Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel to Bengaluru from September 7 to 9. During a meeting with Christian Biever, the Ambassador of Luxembourg to India, and Maxime Victor, Counsellor at the Embassy of Luxembourg, Patil discussed investment opportunities and potential collaborations between Karnataka and Luxembourg. The discussion centered on enhancing ties between the two regions in areas such as investment, innovation, and technology. Patil emphasized Karnataka’s robust innovation ecosystem, its industry-friendly policies, and its large pool of skilled workers. He presented the KWIN City project, an industrial township under development near Dabaspete and Doddaballapura, as a key opportunity for Luxembourg-based firms, academic institutions, and innovation agencies to collaborate. The minister also pointed out that Luxembourg-based company Ceratizit already operates in Karnataka, manufacturing advanced cutting materials, and noted Luxembourg’s strengths in sectors such as steel, automotive, engineering, clean energy, industrial equipment, and space technology. Patil further highlighted the existing economic ties between Karnataka and Luxembourg, noting that Bengaluru-based tech giants Infosys and Wipro have established operations in Luxembourg. This reflects a broader trend of growing economic engagement between the two regions. The meeting underscored the mutual interest in deepening cooperation through joint ventures, knowledge exchange, and shared technological advancements. In addition to the Luxembourg focus, Patil announced that Karnataka will host an investment outreach program in Fukuoka, Japan, aimed at attracting Tier-2 semiconductor companies and fostering stronger ties with the Japanese semiconductor sector. The plan follows discussions with C. Ramkumar, the Consul General of India in Fukuoka. These talks explored Karnataka’s supportive policies, its well-developed semiconductor ecosystem, and its research and development capabilities. The minister also highlighted the state’s extensive network of Global Capability Centers (GCCs), which have drawn increasing attention from Japanese businesses. Karnataka’s talent pool, bolstered by institutions such as the Indian Institute of Science and other top-tier research centers, was cited as a crucial asset for advancing industry-academia collaboration. Patil stressed that enhanced technology partnerships and increased investment from Japanese firms could significantly boost the state’s semiconductor sector and contribute to sustained economic growth. The proposed outreach program in Fukuoka aims to create a platform for dialogue between Karnataka’s semiconductor industry and Japanese counterparts. It is expected to facilitate the sharing of best practices, foster joint R&D initiatives, and open new avenues for business expansion. The initiative aligns with Karnataka’s broader strategy to position itself as a global hub for advanced manufacturing and technology innovation.
