Prime Video has confirmed that its upcoming second season of the series Menem will include Cecilia Bolocco, the former Miss Universe who was absent during the show’s first run. The announcement came during an event held in Mexico City attended by Culto, where the streaming platform officially announced the continuation of the political drama centered around Argentine president Carlos Menem. The new season, which will feature Leonardo Sbaraglia reprising his role as Menem, is set to debut in 2027. The first season of Menem, which premiered in July 2025, covered the early years of Menem’s presidency, beginning in 1987 in La Rioja and concluding with the tragic death of his son, Carlos Menem Jr., following a helicopter crash. This marked the end of his first term. The second season will focus primarily on Menem’s second presidential mandate, a period characterized by declining public support and increased scrutiny over his leadership. According to the synopsis shared by Prime Video, the episodes will depict Menem surrounded by political enemies and a more aggressive press, with his public image deteriorating alongside the country's economic situation. The season will explore moments such as his interactions with Madonna, drives in a Ferrari, and statements about space travel. The new season will not conclude in 1999, Menem’s last year in office, but will extend into the early 2000s. This expansion allows for the inclusion of Cecilia Bolocco, who played a key role in Menem’s personal life. During the first season, she was notably absent, but her presence will now be central to the narrative. Bolocco, known for her 1987 Miss Universe title, interviewed Menem in 1999 on the television program La noche de Cecilia. In that interview, Menem discussed the grief he felt over his son’s death, his status as a bachelor, and his desire to return to the presidency in 2003. Although he won the first round of voting, he withdrew four days before the runoff, amid predictions of a humiliating defeat against Néstor Kirchner. Bolocco and Menem began a relationship that culminated in their marriage in May 2001 in La Rioja, resulting in the birth of their son, Máximo. Their union ended in 2007, and they finalized their divorce in 2011. Bolocco described Menem as someone who was neither tall nor physically imposing, yet whose strength could not be questioned. Her portrayal of him in the television program helped shape public perception of the politician during a critical time in his career. Actor Juan Minujín, who portrays Olegario Salas, Menem’s trusted friend and photographer, confirmed to Culto that Bolocco’s character will appear in the new season. Minujín is currently preparing for his role, practicing the Rioplatense accent and growing a beard to match his character. He expressed enthusiasm for the new season, calling it “very fun.” Olegario Salas, a fictional character created specifically for the series, served as a narrative device to provide insight into Menem’s world through the eyes of an ordinary man. Actor Gonzalo Rocha, who plays Salas, praised this creative choice, stating that it allowed for a unique perspective on power and influence.
