Two suspects have been placed under judicial custody following a failed armed robbery attempt against a money transport truck in the Franklin neighborhood, according to local authorities. The individuals, identified as a 22-year-old Venezuelan citizen and a 28-year-old Ecuadorian national, were detained through judicial orders requested by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the North Central region. Both will appear before the Justice Center on Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 10:10 a.m. near the Matadero area, where a money transport truck was loading cash into an automated teller machine. During the attempted robbery, gunfire erupted, resulting in injuries to two security guards and the death of one individual. Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased was among the attackers and sustained a wound from a shot fired by a security officer. The remaining suspects fled in a private vehicle. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Venezuelan suspect, who was arrested in the late afternoon, was directly involved in ambushing the guards and firing a firearm. The Ecuadorian suspect, detained later in the evening, is believed to have driven a prearranged vehicle used to facilitate their escape. The prosecutor, Felipe Olivari, stated that the Ecuadorian suspect was identified as the driver responsible for transporting the perpetrators during their flight. Following the attack, the on-duty prosecutor from the North Central Public Prosecutor’s Office, Sergio Ortiz, ordered investigations with the OS-9 unit and the Forensic Laboratory of Carabineros. These units are tasked with collecting evidence and conducting forensic analysis to support the ongoing legal proceedings.
