Good practice in bilingual early childhood education

The article discusses a virtual meeting within the Lingua project focused on exchanging experiences and comparing early childhood education systems between Slovenia and Austria. The event was organized by partners including Mohorjeva družba, Gorenjski glas, and Ljudska univerza Škofja Loka. The project, funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the Interreg program, aims to identify common ground for further professional collaboration. Key topics included multilingual early childhood education, inclusion, and challenges such as lack of qualified staff and differing regulatory frameworks. Slovenian director Karl Hren noted that while Slovenia has more regulated bilingual kindergartens compared to Austrian Carinthia, many are private and rely on special funds. Public kindergartens increasingly offer bilingual groups but often lack systemic support. The project also facilitated practical training for six Slovenian interns at a bilingual kindergarten operated by Mohorjeva družba.
