Germany: more than half of town halls rely on artificial intelligence

A survey conducted by Forsa for the software provider Meister reveals that nearly half (52%) of municipal administrations in Germany with at least 1,000 residents either already use or are currently testing artificial intelligence (AI) for administrative tasks. Of these, 16% are actively using AI, while another 36% are experimenting with relevant applications. Around 43% of respondents indicated that AI is not yet a priority for their municipalities. The most common uses of AI include document creation and editing, translations, text generation, summarizing and analyzing records, and meeting minutes transcription. Municipalities primarily view AI as a tool to increase efficiency, save time, and expedite processing of citizen requests. Nearly half of the surveyed officials also see AI as a potential solution to alleviate the shortage of skilled workers.
