Progressive Democrats Are Winning in Just About Every Corner of America

Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Adriano Espaillat (D-N.Y.) faced an unexpected challenge in the Democratic primary for New York’s 13th Congressional District, where he ultimately lost to socialist candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier. This result marked a significant shift in the political landscape, reflecting broader tensions between the Democratic establishment and progressive factions within the party. Espaillat, a long-serving member of Congress since 2015, represented a district spanning parts of Manhattan and the Bronx, known for its diversity and working-class demographics. On the opposing side, Justice Democrats invested $1.5 million in supporting Avila Chevalier, while American Priorities, a super PAC established to counter AIPAC, contributed an additional $1.3 million.
