Scientists at South Korea's Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) have developed a powder capable of stopping potentially fatal bleeding within one second. This innovation could significantly impact both military medicine and civilian emergency care. The powder, called AGCL, forms a hydrogel barrier upon contact with blood, effectively sealing wounds. It combines natural ingredients like alginate, gellan gum, and chitosan, which react with calcium in the blood to create the hydrogel quickly. The material has shown strong performance in laboratory tests, including high adhesive strength, low hemolysis rates, and excellent antibacterial properties.
