A Chinese humanoid robot shattered the world record set by Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt during the 100-meter race at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing. The robot, named Tiangong Ultra, completed the distance in 9.39 seconds, nearly 0.2 seconds faster than Bolt’s 2009 world record of 9.58 seconds. In contrast, Lightning, standing at 1.69 meters tall with legs measuring 95 centimeters, had previously won the human-sized marathon in April, completing the 21.0975-kilometer race in 50 minutes and 26 seconds, a time better than the men’s world record for the distance. For the Beijing competition, Lightning’s legs were extended to 1.05 meters, allowing for greater stride length and potentially higher speeds. However, despite these modifications, Lightning could not match Tiangong Ultra’s performance in the 100-meter race.
