Czech Republic to extradite extremist Liebich to Germany, court rules

The Czech Republic has decided to extradite Marlu Svenja Liebichová, a far-right extremist, back to Germany where she faces prison time. The Prague High Court confirmed this decision, rejecting her appeal against extradition. Liebichová had previously been convicted in Germany for hate speech, defamation, and other offenses, and was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison. After changing her legal gender from male to female, she was supposed to serve her sentence in a women’s prison but failed to appear. She was detained in the Czech Republic under an EU arrest warrant and now faces extradition. Liebichová argued that returning to Germany would put her safety and dignity at risk, claiming she fears abuse in a men’s prison. However, the court dismissed these concerns as motivated. The case has sparked debate in Germany over the self-determination law, which allows individuals to change their legal gender through declaration without judicial review. Some German states now want to amend the law to prevent misuse.
