Céline Dion filmed for the first time in public after two years

Céline Dion made her first public appearance in two years on Friday in Paris, where she was greeted by fans. The 58-year-old singer arrived in the French capital ahead of her highly anticipated return to the stage. This marked her first official outing in front of the public since her long absence, and Dion showed visible emotion. She waved to the gathered crowd and gave them kisses in front of the Le Royal Monceau hotel. For this occasion, she chose an elegant beige blazer and high-heeled shoes. Although she kept her eyes hidden behind dark glasses, her smile conveyed how much her support means to her while she posed for photographers. Dion performed at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics on July 26, 2024, singing “Hymne à l’amour” atop the Eiffel Tower. Later that year, in November, she also took part in a major event in Riyadh, performing “The Power of Love” and “I’m Alive.” Now, the singer is intensively preparing for her comeback, three years after she had to cancel her world tour due to a serious illness. She was diagnosed with stiff person syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological disorder causing severe muscle stiffness and painful spasms. After stepping back from the spotlight, she focused on treatment and rehabilitation. Today, she is physically much better than during the worst period of her illness. In the past six years, Dion has only performed once. She openly demonstrated the weight of her battle with health issues in the documentary “I Am: Céline Dion,” released in 2024. It shows how her entire body begins to lose control and stiffen during one of her attacks. The episode shown in the film lasts about five minutes, but the director said the real situation lasted up to 50 minutes. In March, she announced ten concerts in Paris, starting this autumn. Due to the great interest from the public, the number of performances has been increased by another 16, so Dion will perform from September of this year all the way until May 2027. About her preparations for her return, as well as the uncertainties she faces after the diagnosis, the singer spoke this month to Harper’s Bazaar. To better prepare for her performances, Dion is undergoing a rigorous training regimen. Three times a week, she does 90-minute Pilates sessions, and twice a week she attends ballet classes. “It's a progressive condition. I don’t like to call it a disease because that word sounds too negative to me,” Dion explained.
