ISA New Mayor Wants to Look to the Future
The new mayor of Grindavík, Pétur G. He will officially take over from current mayor Fannar Jónasson at a meeting tomorrow. The town was evacuated three years ago due to volcanic activity and related uncertainties, and many residents now wish to return. Pétur emphasizes that Grindavík and its people are unique and have shown remarkable resilience during difficult times. His priorities include ensuring that residents can return home and improving living conditions through updated housing agreements with the Thorkatla Property Company. There is also a plan for residents to repurchase their homes, which has been delayed but is expected to be announced soon. Despite these efforts, there are concerns about the safety of children returning to school in the area.
