Blaž Brodnjak, Chairman of the Board of NLB, stated during the 'Energetika 2026' conference organized by Delo and DPC in Bled that financial resources are not the primary barrier to large-scale energy projects in Slovenia, including the potential construction of a second nuclear power plant block at Krsko. He argued that the core issue is the lack of long-term strategic decisions regarding the country’s desired economic structure and future energy needs. Brodnjak highlighted that while the state budget has grown from approximately 11 billion euros in 2019 to 19 billion euros annually, he questioned whether this additional funding was directed toward productive investments in production and infrastructure rather than current consumption. Panelists, including executives from ELES, GEN energija, GEN-I, and Slovenske elektrarne, discussed high electricity prices, increasing import dependence, and the challenges of maintaining industrial competitiveness amid the green transition. They emphasized that high final energy costs, including grid fees and levies, hinder domestic companies from investing in development compared to foreign competitors.
